An intense sound of wind in grass encountered visitors at the entrance of The Watermill Center even on a windless day. The slowly rising stair entrance is enveloped in rows of tall grasses (Maiden grass) which on a windy day generates a penetrating sound. This sound was recreated through manipulating the grass and recording the sound produced. Speakers placed along the entrance between the rows of grasses played back the recorded sound. Visitors experienced passing through a perplexing enclosing corridor of sound as they ascended the entrance path.
