An intense sound of wind in grass encountered visitors at the entrance of The Watermill Center even on a windless day. The slowly rising stair entrance is enveloped in rows of tall grasses (Maiden grass) which on a windy day generates a penetrating sound. This sound was recreated through manipulating the grass and recording the sound produced. Speakers placed along the entrance played back the recorded sound. Visitors experienced passing through a perplexing enclosing corridor of sound as they ascended the entrance path.
